Sodium Butyrate 98% Granules: A Latin America Premix Buyer Checklist

Sodium butyrate is one option within a broader butyrate and gut-health formulation strategy. Feed and premix buyers in Latin America should qualify the exact grade, physical form and documentation rather than treating every sodium butyrate offer as interchangeable.

Identify the commercial grade

Winstar Ingredients’ documented grade is feed-grade sodium butyrate 98% uncoated granule. The product page lists a white granular appearance, assay of at least 98.00%, loss on drying of maximum 2.00% and arsenic of maximum 2 ppm. The documented packing is a 25 kg paper-plastic composite bag or kraft paper bag, with customized packing subject to discussion.

Powder, uncoated granule and coated options may differ in active content, coating system, carrier, particle size and release profile. Confirm the quoted form and the specification that will govern the order.

Connect physical form to the premix process

  • Review particle-size compatibility with the other premix components.
  • Test flow, dust and feeding behavior in the buyer’s equipment.
  • Check blend uniformity and segregation risk at the intended inclusion level.
  • Evaluate hygroscopic handling under local warehouse conditions.
  • Confirm whether granules remain intact through transport and mixing.

A laboratory COA cannot predict every handling issue. A representative sample should be tested in the actual carrier system and process before commercial approval.

Build the technical document package

Request the current TDS, representative COA, SDS, packing details, storage guidance, shelf life and lot-traceability information. The buyer should confirm applicable microbiological, contaminant and physical parameters for the selected market and use. Document versions should be linked to the quotation and purchase specification.

Plan a controlled formulation evaluation

Define the target species, feed type, process and measurable objectives before the trial. Compare the candidate with the current formulation under equivalent conditions. Inclusion level and interpretation belong to the nutrition and R&D team; the ingredient should not be presented as a treatment or a guaranteed disease-prevention product.

Applications may include poultry, swine, aquaculture, compound feed, premix and specialty nutrition. Suitability must be confirmed for the complete formulation, production conditions and destination-market requirements.

Prepare for tropical storage and import

Store bags tightly closed in a cool, dry place according to the agreed guidance. Buyers in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Caribbean markets should review humidity protection, palletization, container loading and warehouse turnover. Confirm classification, labeling, registration and feed-use requirements with local specialists before shipment.

Compare commercial terms separately from technical approval

After the grade passes technical screening, confirm quantity, packing, production preparation, freight and lead time. A free sample may be discussed for qualified projects, but sample availability and shipping terms should be confirmed for each case.
