Pea Protein Isolate Grades for Latin America: An Import Buyer’s Checklist

Buying pea protein isolate for Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina or the Caribbean is not simply a matter of selecting the highest protein percentage. The correct grade must fit the application, processing conditions, documentation requirements and landed-cost plan. Winstar Ingredients supplies conventional pea protein isolate in 80%, 85% and 90% protein grades, while organic options are available in 80% and 85% grades, subject to specification confirmation.

Start with the application, not the percentage

A higher assay can support protein-enrichment targets, but it does not automatically guarantee better sensory or processing performance. Beverage, nutrition powder, bar, bakery and plant-based food projects may value dispersibility, hydration, emulsification, texture, color or flavor differently. Buyers should request the grade-specific specification and sample COA, then conduct trials in the actual recipe and process.

Compare the correct specification

  • Confirm whether protein is reported on an as-is or dry basis.
  • Review moisture, ash, microbiological limits and any agreed physical parameters.
  • Ask for particle-size and bulk-density information when dosing and handling are important.
  • For organic projects, verify that the certificate scope matches the quoted product and manufacturing site.
  • Confirm allergen, non-GMO and origin documents required by the destination market.

Plan packaging and logistics for Latin America

Available product records include 20 kg, 25 kg, 900 kg and 1,100 kg formats. Final packaging, pallet configuration and loading quantity depend on the selected grade and order. Importers should compare container utilization, warehouse handling, humidity protection and the time required to consume an opened pack—not only the price per kilogram.

Use a controlled qualification process

  1. Define the finished-product target and processing conditions.
  2. Select one or two technically suitable grades.
  3. Review the current TDS, sample COA and supporting statements.
  4. Run bench trials and evaluate flavor, color, hydration and texture.
  5. Repeat the preferred formula at pilot scale before commercial purchasing.

Specifications and market requirements should be confirmed for each shipment. Winstar Ingredients does not assume that one grade is universally suitable for every food or feed application.
