“Butyrate” is not one interchangeable feed product. Sodium butyrate, calcium butyrate, tributyrin and monobutyrin differ in chemical form, assay, physical form, handling and expected release behavior. Feed buyers should first define the species, process and formulation objective, then compare qualified grades on the same technical basis.
Sodium butyrate
Winstar Ingredients’ documented portfolio includes 98% uncoated sodium butyrate granule. Powder and coated options are subject to grade confirmation. Procurement review should cover assay, physical form, odor management, flowability, coating details when applicable and uniform distribution in feed or premix.
Calcium butyrate
Documented calcium butyrate options include 98% powder or granule, while coated options require confirmation. Buyers should compare the salt form, assay, particle characteristics and how the product fits their premix or compound-feed process.
Tributyrin
The portfolio includes 95% liquid and 60% powder tributyrin grades. Liquid and powder formats require different dosing, carrier, mixing and storage arrangements. The stated percentage and analytical method must be matched to the quoted grade.
Monobutyrin
A 50% liquid monobutyrin grade is listed for flexible feed formulation. Before selection, confirm the carrier system, physical handling, stability, compatibility with other ingredients and the evidence relevant to the intended species.
A practical comparison process
- Define species, life stage, feed format and manufacturing temperature.
- Identify whether the priority is handling, active concentration, delivery form or process compatibility.
- Request the grade-specific TDS, SDS and sample COA.
- Compare inclusion economics on an active-content basis rather than product weight alone.
- Run a controlled formulation and animal-performance trial before commercial scale-up.
Butyrate products are positioned as feed ingredients supporting formulation and gut-health strategies. They should not be presented as treatments or guaranteed disease-prevention products. Regulatory status and permitted claims must be confirmed for each destination market, including Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Caribbean countries.
